Stairway to... by subhankar-biswas Stairway to... by subhankar-biswas
a solitary climber ascending the steps. something about this put me in a deeply contemplative mood: where is she climbing? what is she thinking? she doesn't seem to be in a hurry to reach the top...
i tried to capture that essence by drawing the barest minimum elements into the picture. what feelings and thoughts does it trigger in you? tell me, i'd love to know.

this is for a very special lady i have grown to love, admire and think about every day. we haven't met face-to-face, but she has made a tremendous difference in my life just by being there.
yes, it's my sweet Jo! :iconjocelyner:
may you have a WONDERFUL time with family and friends on your birthday!

This piece is very eye catching. For me, there is a loneliness in this illustration but there is also the strength to move forward, to keep going.
It's wonderful. And nice of you to inquire of others feelings towards it, probably so different for everyone. :butterfly:

hi, chibi! your feelings on this match mine remarkably. as i've discovered, despite all the love and support of our family and friends, all our journeys ultimately depend on our own personal strength and courage. and that is a very tough thing to do sometimes.
thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Jocelyne is a big sweetheart and wonderful person for so many of us here on dA.
While I would love to meet her in person, like you, I know I already love her.

This is a fantastic piece, for me it is creating a mood of... faith... she is set upon a path, and it is the path that is seen with the destination unknown, and unknown to her... we cannot truly know our destinations- meaning, we cannot always know what the future holds, but we cannot let fear take over and keep us from moving along in our lives, experiencing the *journey* rather than worrying about the *destination* - this wonderful illustrative concept shows faith.

Thank you for sharing with us. Your work is always impressive to me.

words filled with a rare wisdom and sensitivity. indeed, the world is in such a mad scramble to REACH, that most people forget to enjoy the journey.  beautiful interpretation, tea!

Thank you my sweet friend... I... will just say that it means a lot that you even appreciated my words of interpretation.

When I see an image, usually nearly any, there is *something* that comes to my mind- sometimes positive (of course I only prefer the positive, because of the need in my life to balance out the other... but i like darker art, too),

I've been told I'm too sensitive, or overly sensitive, and maybe it is true. Sometimes, this might not be a good thing. But sometimes it is. I've tried to *work* on it because there have been some people who are not so appreciative of my sensitivities... but I have learned, that this is just me, and that I need to accept this for myself, first, and those who also do, GREAT, and those who can't,

Anyway, enough about that, just thank you... for so much... more than you know.

A lonely stairs to climb.the scene is so aged and i can see it as a depiction of the final days in her life.what is so beautiful is the serenity and the peace you created around her.And that is her story.
good job on this.

It triggers a loving souvenir, dear Subhankar: my grandmother used to ask every week day my mother to drive her to the church. She was sitting in the church during two hours. She was a contemplative, meditating... She was a devote Catholic but in a good way: never judging anyone, never talking against others or blaming, always so indulgent. Besides, she was very brilliant, exchanging letters with high-ranked priests or journalists as well as with humble persons. Although she hasn't had an easy life, she was a loving person - and a loved one - always smiling and friendly.

You have touched a sensitive chord with this beautiful drawing, my dear Subhankar. My grandmother passed away suddenly when I was 18. I was loving her so much and I still terribly miss her. When I was a little girl, I was calling her often, asking if I could come to her house. She was treating me like a treasure!

Thank you ever so much for this awesome drawing for my birthday, my sweet friend and for your kind wishes!  :tighthug:
And thank you dearly for your kind words, they move me very, very much!  I love you too, Subhankar, you are a very precious friend to me! It is like I have ever known you, you are a gift, an invaluable gift to me.  It is like I was feeling you all the time.

Very amazing gift for Jocelyne, and such thoughtful words that she will appreciate :)

The scene invokes to me a very pensive lady that climbs stairs to... a cult place of some sort, on a very bright and sunny day.
Very awesome!

What a fabulous dedication (to a fabulous lady) dear Brother - and what a fabulous piece of work to give her as a Birthday Present...

Somehow (for me) the depth of the work with it's simple (lone) figure invokes a slight melancholic feeling.. Maybe heightened by the use of B&W and focusing around the figure leaving the background "unfinished"... It appears your own mood has transferred itself to this lovely piece... :iconclapplz:

you're right, mel. the artist always transfers a piece of him-/herself into their art. i notice now that i've (unconsciously) left the 'destination' (upper portion that she is climbing towards) unfinished, unclear...perhaps we don't really know where we're going, what we'll find.

Exactly my dear friend - life is so often a mystery... even when we think we know the path we are on - the unexpected happens..

A beautiful gift for Jocelyne. She will be very happy with your wonderful words.

I'm thinking that stairs are often an indication of the steps we must take in order to achieve a goal.
With every goal we reach we are coming a bit higher on the stairs of life and we may rest in the shadow of the tree, before we enter another dimension by opening the door.
